Peter Tessier: On-ice results history doesn't favour Maurice Taking a look at Maurice's coaching history and what happens the longer he stays.

Well said Peter. I agree to the no extension before the season. If Chevy makes a couple decent moves to fill some holes then Maurice needs to produce now. If the team is doing great by the benchmark US Turkey Day then maybe consider extending him late in the year. If they are still struggling, then we know what happens to Turkeys at Thanksgiving......

Maurice has been coaching in the league since the 90's and in all that time he only has one season where he posted an above 500 winning percentage. He seems to start strong with every team each coaches and then he produces diminishing returns. As much I love the guy, he is not the right coach for the job.

It surprises me that True North has had terrible NHL coaches when they did so well producing them with the Manitoba Moose (Arniel, Carlyle, Vigneault).

This team need to purge the coach and GM. Can't just settle for mediocrity escpecially with the team you guys have.

There is no rush to sign PoMo as he is not going to get a head coach offer with any other NHL team. I like the guy but his results after his tenure questionably justify a new contract. The same problems typifying this team have remained the same.

With the results over the last ten games it did indicate the players want him back but this should be a results oriented business. To sign him prior to the season starting just creates fan pressure and a betting chart on when he is fired. To sign him to an extension and start off poorly will only leave the Jets with the option of replacing him and paying two head coach salaries.

It's likely that PoMo has some reservations on signing because of Chevy's reluctance to act quicker than he does, but still in the end no other HC jobs in the NHL are coming, so this is when Chevy should take his time.

I'm not sure who is available but I would only be looking at proven NHL winners. No new blood or "also coached" guys.

Paul Maurice is the best coach who is actually willing to coach in Winnipeg. While he is far from an ideal coach, he has been hamstrung by a disproportionately high injury rate. I believe the Jets were among the league leaders in man games lost to injury last season. If the Jets fire a coach who was dealt the injury hand that he had last year and then ended the season with a Franchise record winning streak, they will have a hard time convincing any quality coach to come to the frozen tundra. I would be happy if the Jets give Maurice 20 games next season to see what he can do with a healthy roster. If they are above the playoff line at that point, give him an extension. If they are below the playoff line then move on.

I would agree there is no reason to rush into an extension for Maurice. It isn't like he's lead Winnipeg anywhere yet.

Although I do think there is a fair argument that he hasn't had quite enough help over the years. I remember hearing an argument made about him really never getting amazing goaltending and there is something to it. The goalies he's had for a lot of his time includes Arturs Irbe, Kevin Weekes, Raycroft, Pavelec, and Hellebuyck. The best he's had is probably Cam Ward. Who has given average goaltending through his career.

Not sure there is necessarily a point in going for Maurice's head until the goaltending situation settles down.

I used to think it was inevitable that Hawerchuck would be the next coach of this team, now I wonder if its GM or Coach that he will eventually be.

I try to give Maurice the benefit of the doubt because he's dealt with injuries and he's such a nice guy, but he really outcoaches himself ALOT.
Laine taking one-timers on the power play from JoMo, Toby, or anyone with playmaking ability? Nah, give him the semi-occasional Byfuglien pass when he can't find a lane. Better yet, just move Laine to his off side by the blueline. PERFECT.
Morrissey and Trouba as the top guys in all situations? Nah, they're young. Probably need to play less in spite of clearly being better than everyone else. Always play Byfuglien over Trouba, and NEVER let JoMo clear 20 minutes. Especially shelter Morrissey by keeping him off any special teams, we don't like winning.
Enstrom or Morrissey on the PK instead of Chairot and Stuart? Nonesense! We need them to stay back! Block shots and screen our goalie! What do you want them to do? Cover their man, take away the puck, and clear the zone? Amateurs.
Petan, Dano, and Connor can't seem to score despite being massive producers in other leagues? Thorburn and Tanev should help. Maybe Lowry. You need guys who can't really score to help them get going.

Wasn't that cup win after the reign of Alexander the Great but before the Crusades?

Hope I'm not being naive saying this - I think Winnipeg would be a highly valued destination for professional NHL level coaches ... the team has a couple (several ?) gaps to fill but the POTENTIAL is there ... that word, again - POTENTIAL ... a good NHL coach I would think could see that and would want the chance to take our team to the next level
.
I might be a bit 'bright eyed' in saying this but good coaches would see the upside
.
As far as GM goes - I don't know ... my gut tells me attracting players to Winnipeg is tough (as opposed to my previous coaches statement, above) ... I just don't know how hard Chevy has been rattling the market to find guys ... maybe he has - or - maybe he's stuck in 'draft n develop' mode
.
Meanwhile, I've locked and loaded on 1/4 season tix with a group of guys ... supplementing my 'day-of' purchases and invites ... so, as long as the buying public remains ....
